Three Sisters at Morning View Farm

The Dual Meanings of Three Sisters
At Morning View Farm, the term "three sisters" refers both to a garden planting combination of seeds and to sister Clydesdale horses that live and work on the farm.  The combination of corn, beans and squash provided balanced nutrition for native Amercans that planted these three together.  The plants also support each other.  The corn provides a trellis for the pole beans to climb.  The beans take nitrogen from the air and make it available in the soil for other plants.  The squash smothers weeds by providing a thorough ground cover.  The three Clydesdale sisters are Calleigh, Holly and Kelly.  Their sire is Ramsey, a Clydesdale born in Scottland and imported to Sandpoint, ID.  You can see pictures and video of them working below.  The sisters work the soil, plow snow, skid logs, and harvest crops.
